Mrs. Angelos (EL teacher) and Mrs. Keblusek (5th grade) arranged for a special guest to speak to the 5th-grade team at Kolmar. The students and staff welcomed Mr. Nick Spinos to share his story of how and why he immigrated to the US. He shared how he traveled through an underground train tunnel in the early 80’s for a chance to live the American dream.
“It was good because he described it better so we could picture him going through the dark dusty tunnel. And he explained how his dream was to come to the United States and be a businessman,” said Kolmar Student, Aimen Bawadi.
“I think it was very interesting because I can relate to it, like the language and the moving,” said Ibrahim Alsquofi.
His experiences were a great connection for the 5th graders after reading the book “Esperanza Rising” this year. The students asked insightful, well thought out questions, and were gracious listeners.
Mr. Spinos is a successful business owner in the Chicagoland area who said he “regrets every day of my life that I did not go to college” left the students with the message to get their education.
