The Kolmar Physical Education Department was recently awarded a grant from the Illinois Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (IAHPERD).
The state organization for physical education allows members to apply for program enhancement grants. The grant allows teachers who get approved to purchase equipment for their physical education program.
“We are excited to receive this grant to purchase more equipment for our fitness lessons. Our hope is for our students to not only enjoy our fitness lessons but to find activities they enjoy and can do on their own time. We want our students to understand the importance of being active, and to be able to live a healthy lifestyle with the tools and strategies we provide to them,” said Renee Ziobro, PE Teacher at Kolmar.
They plan on using the grant to purchase new equipment for their designated “fitness day” each week. To teach the students about the fitness components and the different ways to lead a healthy lifestyle. The equipment will be used at station work along with whole group activity.
“The students will be able to enhance their fitness levels and challenge themselves with this new equipment. The equipment will motivate the students to improve their fitness levels while having fun at the same time,” said Ziobro.
To be considered for the grant, Kolmar had to be members in good standing with IAHPERD, had to submit documents that explained what they wanted to purchase and how it would enhance curriculum.
